How to choose artificial turf

Start with the way you use your space, then compare the complete system—not just the colour.

How to choose artificial turf
01

Start with the activity

A quiet backyard, a busy dog run and a training lane have different requirements. Describe who will use the space, how often, and whether it is indoors or outdoors. For a temporary event, compare rental with purchase and include the venue, dates and setup window.

02

Compare samples and specifications

Ask for samples and the technical information for the exact product being quoted. Compare texture, appearance, pile height, backing and the recommended infill or underlay. View samples in the lighting of your space. A photograph can help you explore a look, but it cannot confirm feel or suitability.

03

Think below the surface

Existing ground, drainage, edges and transitions influence the proposed system. Pet areas need a workable cleaning plan. Play equipment, sport facilities and rooftops need additional project-specific review; a green surface alone does not establish safety or performance.

04

Compare the same scope

Ask whether quotes include removal, site preparation, turf, joining materials, infill, edging, delivery and installation. Confirm roll widths and the proposed layout: your measured footprint is not necessarily the order quantity. Request written warranty terms, exclusions and maintenance requirements for the selected materials and installation.
